En un dialogo imperdible, el artista habló sobre el gran presente de su carrera. -Nos habías contado que comenzarías una serie de grabaciones dedicadas a la música romántica brasileña de los años 60. ¿Se está concretando? El cantautor Jhosemaria De Niro dialogó una vez más largo y tendido con la directora de NOVA Córdoba , Nöel “Neni” Gibelli , en una entrevista íntima que abordó diferentes temas relacionados con la carrera del artista, su actualidad y la forma en la que entiende la música. De Niro: -¡Ya lo creo! Tenemos a nuestro productor artístico trabajando con los músicos preparando el material que dará para 3 ( tres) álbumes que se llamarán Nostalgie 1-2 y 3. Gracias a Tribeca New York Music puedo decir que canto cumpliendo todos mis sueños. -¿La producción va dirigida al público de Brasil? De Niro: -No. Irá dirigida al público que me sigue y que es fundamentalmente anglófono. Las canciones están versionadas al inglés. El oyente de habla inglesa, a pesar de la enorme variedad que existe, tiene tendencia a escuchar un formato de música bastante cerrado que además se exporta al mundo entero. El planeta está sumergido en formatos estandarizados. Pero se sorprende fácilmente cuando se le muestra algo inesperado. Yo quiero mostrar algo que no conocen. Comenzamos haciendo una prueba pequeña en una radio digital que tiene mucha audiencia y el resultado es asombroso. ¡Estamos hablando de canciones de los años 60 con sus arreglos originales! -¿Son canciones conocidas? De Niro: -En el mundo actual nada de lo antiguo es conocido. Me sorprendieron jóvenes brasileños con los que hablé del repertorio que estoy grabando y de los artistas que los interpretaban en aquellos años y me confesaban no conocer ni las canciones ni a sus intérpretes. El afán de innovar ha devorado casi todo, con algunas excepciones, claro está. -Alguna vez dijiste que éstas canciones nunca pudiste grabarlas. De Niro: -El repertorio del que estamos hablando forma parte de mi adolescencia cuando yo soñaba con ser cantante. Mis referentes eran muchos de los artistas brasileños de la década de los 60 y 70. Lo que hago es una especie de homenaje a tantos artistas de gran calidad olvidados y también un tributo a mí mismo. Miro en el espejo al hombre que soy y le pido que viaje al pasado para avisarle al joven que se quedó en un bucólico barrio de Buenos Aires que ha llegado la hora de la dulce venganza, de cierto renacer del alma y las cosas bellas que quedaron en una caja perfumada con fotos color sepia. -¿Por qué te expresas en términos de “ venganza” aunque sea “ dulce”? De Niro: -Porque soy el producto de una larga lucha despiadada , cruel y solitaria contra los que detentan el poder de difusión de un artista y deciden arbitrariamente quien merece ser conocido y quien no lo merece , según “ ellos”. Es verdad que mi experiencia tuvo que ver con una país bastante indiferente a mi trabajo. Sería injusto olvidar de España, Francia, Italia y ahora los países de habla inglesa sin excepción me han puesto en un lugar que agradezco. Tal vez, si tengo alguna herida, ésta se originó justamente en el país que me vio nacer. ¿Ese país es Argentina? De Niro: -Exacto. Yo nací en Buenos Aires y me eduqué en un país que era fantástico desde el punto de vista académico. Pero no era igual en todos los órdenes. Una vez Astor Piazzolla me aconsejó que emigrase a Europa o USA. Tengo nacionalidades Italiana y Francesa. Atravesando los años me di cuenta que la Patria, como decía Claude Levy-Strauss no es el país donde uno ha nacido, porque es puede ser casual. La patria está formada por los olores y sabores de la infancia. He conocido gente de varios países y he vivo de manera estable, en cuatro diferentes. Las fronteras no se ven desde los aviones. El planeta es mi patria y la de todos. El amor es lo único que le da sentido a la vida que por sí misma parece insensata. ENGLISH VERSION Interview with Jhosemaria De Niro on 5 July 2024 -You had told us that you were going to start a series of recordings dedicated to Brazilian romantic music of the 60s. Is it coming to fruition? De Niro: -Yes, it is! We have our artistic producer working with the musicians to prepare the material for 3 (three) albums to be called NOSTALGIE 1-2 and 3. Thanks to Tribeca New York Music I can say that I'm singing all my dreams come true. -Is the production aimed at the Brazilian audience? De Niro: -No. It will be aimed at the audience that follows me, which is mainly English-speaking. The songs are in English. The English-speaking listener, despite the enormous variety that exists, tends to listen to a fairly closed music format that is also exported all over the world. The planet is immersed in standardised formats. But they are easily surprised when you show them something unexpected. I want to show them something they don't know. We started with a small test on a digital radio station that has a large audience and the result is amazing - we're talking about songs from the 60s with their original arrangements! -Are they familiar songs? De Niro: -In today's world, nothing old is known. I've been surprised by young Brazilians with whom I've spoken about the repertoire I'm recording and the artists who performed them in those years, and they've confessed that they don't know the songs or their performers. The desire for innovation has swallowed up almost everything, with a few exceptions, of course. -You once said that you could never record these songs. De Niro: -The repertoire we are talking about is part of my adolescence, when I dreamed of being a singer. My references were many of the Brazilian artists of the 60s and 70s. What I am doing is a kind of homage to so many forgotten artists of great quality and also a tribute to myself. I look in the mirror at the man I am today and ask him to travel back in time to tell the young man who stayed in a bucolic neighbourhood of Buenos Aires that the time has come for sweet revenge, for a certain rebirth of the soul and the beautiful things that were left in a perfumed box with sepia-coloured photos. Why do you express yourself in terms of "revenge", even if it is "sweet"? De Niro: -Because I am the product of a long, ruthless, cruel and lonely struggle against those who have the power to distribute an artist and arbitrarily decide who deserves to be known and who doesn't, according to "them", it is true that my experience has to do with a country that is quite indifferent to my work. It would be unfair to forget that Spain, France, Italy and now the English-speaking countries, without exception, have placed me in a position for which I am grateful. Perhaps, if I have any wounds, they have their origin in the country of my birth. Is this country Argentina? De Niro: -Exactly. I was born in Buenos Aires and I was educated in a country that was fantastic from an academic point of view. But it was not the same in all respects. Astor Piazzolla once told me to emigrate to Europe or the United States. I have Italian and French citizenship. As the years went by, I realised that home, as Claude Levy-Strauss said, is not the country you were born in, because it can be casual. Home is formed by the smells and tastes of childhood. I have met people from several countries and I have lived in four different countries. Borders are not visible from a plane. The planet is my home and everyone's home. Love is the only thing that gives meaning to a life that in itself seems meaningless.
