Capibá Rugby Club hosts the emotional and competitive second edition of the Women's Slowpitch Softball Tournament, honoring the legacy of Viviana Chianea. Capibá Rugby Club will host the second edition of the Women's Slowpitch Softball Tournament +35 named “Viviana Chianea”, a sports event that brings together teams from Paraná, the province, and the region. The competition, promoted by the club's softball subcommittee, will kick off on Friday at 10 a.m. and will culminate with the grand final on Saturday at 4 p.m. The tournament is dedicated to Viviana Patricia Chianea, a pivotal figure in the history of softball in Entre Ríos. A player, coach, and current president of the subcommittee, Viviana embodies the spirit of a sport that thrives at the club thanks to her dedication. Under her leadership, Capibá has expanded to include female and male Slowpitch +35 categories, as well as youth teams, fostering an open, inclusive, and forward-thinking environment. A Life Devoted to Softball Chianea's journey in softball began in 1972 when, at only 11 years old, she started playing at Club Rocamora. In a time when the sport was dominated by men, she was part of a group of girls who paved the way for many others. Over the years, she played for institutions like Belgrano, Universitario, Palermo, and Estudiantes, where her talent shone. In 1975, she was first called up to the Paraná Selection team, and a year later, she was part of the squad that became Argentine champions. Her skills led her to represent both youth and senior divisions, and in 1981, she achieved one of the highest honors: wearing the Argentine national team jersey. After taking a break to focus on her family and professional life, she returned to the field in 2004 with the Mami Softball category at Club Talleres. In 2022, she made a strong comeback in the Slowpitch +35 division, and a year later, she brought her vision to Capibá, where she found fertile ground to sow her ideals and build from the grassroots up. “What excites me the most is not only seeing the sport grow but the commitment of families, players, and the entire club. This is a collective effort, which makes it even more valuable,” expressed Viviana. More Than a Competition The “Viviana Chianea” Tournament had its inaugural edition in 2024, endorsed by the Paraná Softball Association. It was the Capibá community itself that chose the name, acknowledging her history, constant efforts, and pivotal role in the development of women's softball. The tournament aims to go beyond sports: it is a space to celebrate journeys, build connections between clubs, and share a passion that knows no age limits. With each pitch, each play, and each embrace between teams, the profound essence of this initiative is felt. Capibá will once again be much more than a venue. It will actively participate in a narrative that honors the past, shapes the present, and dreams collectively. Because in this tournament, as in life, dreams are also at stake.
